SonarLint is your first line of defense against code quality and security issues. It can catch issues in your code right in your IDE, before you even push changes to your repository, using the SonarLint http://dvui.ru/odzson_rukovodsvo_kluba_i_igroki_na_oey_sorone.html IDE extension. In addition to providing you with information that you can act on yourself, quality gates can also be hooked up to your build process to automatically control a release gate.
The example from Airbus showed that their end-to-end architecture was the vital part to improve the supplier quality and decrease FLA downtime. Scholars therefore point out that “Quality gates […] are supposed to increase the confidence stakeholders have in a release”. [5] It is one of the solutions to introduce more quality control in project management surroundings. It’s important that you establish what code quality and security looks like for your team. Sure, everyone can have an opinion on code quality, however, this isn’t ultimately useful as it’s not transparent and readily available to all team members.
Quality Gates as in “Automated Checks”
As mentioned above, the quality gate, in terms of SLOs, can comprise multiple metrics to be evaluated, scored, and graded. The result can then be used to decide if the microservice should be promoted. Not only does Keptn give you the final “pass” or “fail” result that’s been calculated, it returns a detailed score sheet including all evaluated SLIs together with the results of their evaluation. Every organization comes with the built-in Sonar way quality gate set as the default to be assigned to all new projects.
This allows metrics to be compared not just to fixed thresholds, but also to single or multiple previous runs, allowing for more sophisticated analysis. Automatic scoring and grading of builds, artifacts, test results, feature flags, canary deployments, and even full-blown releases must be part of every modern progressive delivery process. Read on for my explanation of what a quality gate is, what’s needed to define a quality gate, and how to use a quality gate. To calculate a quality gate status for the main branch (or any other long-lived branch), a project must have a new code definition set.
How a quality gate works
The concept of a quality gate combines aspects of project management, decision modeling and workflow management to increase measurability and promote superior conditions. Quality gates can be applied at many levels throughout an organization such as system, project and release. Additionally, they can be used as part of the overall product development or quality assurance (QA) methodologies. Keep in mind is that implementing formal project management procedures with quality gates requires a cultural change in the organization.
